While the theatres may have a limited programme on during the summer months, towns, cities and outdoor areas do host a whole range of cultural activities.

The suggestions below are but a few examples.

 

Kunsten op Straat

An international street theatre festival in various towns in Overijssel. From May until September, more than 200 performances are given by more than 100 groups and artists from the Netherlandsand abroad.

Deventer book market, Sunday 6 August 2017
Europe's largest book market with 880 stalls along the river IJssel and in the city centre; extra literary activities, such as a poetry breakfast.

Puppetry Days, Meppel
Dozens of quality performances for young and old by international puppeteers and mime artists.

 

International kite festival, Emmen
Kites in all shapes and sizes with participants from countries far and wide. There are demonstrations, performances, a kite school, a large exhibition, artists with wind projects and various workshops too.

 

Country estate concerts, Dalfsen
Concerts by musical ensembles from different musical backgrounds: from classical to light classical to world music.
Performed on the country estates of Salland in a beautiful outdoor setting with an intimate atmosphere.

 

Twente Ballooning, Oldenzaal, 23-24-25-26 August 2017 

is an event that can be considered as one of the most spectacular balloon meetings in the Netherlands. 
Held at the 'Het Hulsbeek' recreation park in Oldenzaal.

 

Van Hier Tot Ginder art cycling route, Okkenbroek, 9-10-11 June 2017
Annual art cycling route in the beautiful Deventer outdoors, around the village of Okkenbroek. Special locations along the route provide the platform for visual arts, poetry, music and theatre.
Participation is free of charge.

The renovated theatre has a large 470-seat auditorium and a small 140-seat one. There is a varied programme of cabaret, drama, popular and world music.

 

De Carrousel, Ommen
The multipurpose centre Carrousel has a marvellous 265-seat theatre auditorium and balcony. A wide range of artists perform here.

 

Bostheater, Ommen
The largest open-air theatre in the Netherlands with excellent acoustics. There is a varied programme of events during the summer months.

Shakespeare Theater, Diever
Beautifully situated open-air theatre, where, since 1949, Shakespeare plays have been performed in the summer months.
